- Mary Emma Hiscock (nee Pike) is "away from the body and at home with the Lord." Mary was promoted to Glory from The Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge in St. John's in her 88th year. Born in Blaketown, she moved to Corner Brook at the age of 12 with her parents during the pioneering days of the town. Mrs. Hiscock was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Hiscock (1979) and was also predeceased by her son Dean in 1981. Mary was a life member of The Salvation Army Corner Brook Citadel Corps, providing leadership as a local officer in Women's Ministries. Her commitment in service was also evident through her involvement with the Gideon's Ladies' Auxiliary. She was an ardent supporter of her husband in education, local government, and business affairs and a compassionate ministry to all. She is survived by three children, Majors Joan and husband Ray Stratton of Waterloo, Ontario; Majors Edwin and wife Phyllis of Cambridge, Ontario; Lieut-Colonels David and wife Margaret of Halifax, NS; daughter-in-law Joan Knee of Corner Brook; 13 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. Also surviving her are brothers Harold and wife Jean Pike of St. John's; Cecil and wife Violet Pike of Corner Brook; Arthur and wife Jean Pike of Corner Brook; Frank and wife Audrey Pike of Corner Brook; sisters, Mildred and husband Abner Clark of Pasadena; Jean Sparkes of Corner Brook and Geraldine Spear of Massachusetts. Predeceasing her were brothers: Bramwell, Samuel and sisters: Myrtle Clark and Irene Rideout. Visitation: Wednesday 7-9; Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 at Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Mark's Avenue. A funeral service of celebrations will be held at The Salvation Army Citadel, Premier Drive, 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 14th with Majors Ray and Joan Piercey and Majors Gerald and Doreen Lacey officiating. Donations may be made to The Salvation Army Citadel Memorial Fund of The Gideons.
