- Passed peacefully away after a lengthy illness at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre on February 17, 2018. Roy Edison Benson of Grand Falls-Windsor, Born on September 13th, 1930. Roy retired from Abitibi in 1990 after serving more than 40 years as a valuable employee.
Roy loved his life and the freedom and pure joy he got from spending time in the woods. He was an avid and successful moosehunter for the majority of his life, rabbit catching, ice fishing or just cutting wood, when he was in amongst those trees, with a fire going and a cup of tea in his hands he was fulfilled, appreciative and happy with life. He loved to share this passion with his two sons and his Grandson's and even his daughter-in-law who had shared many wonderful trips in those same woods with him. Even older in life and making those trips he could dance circles around the younger generation that would be trudging along behind him. He shared a long and wonderful life, married to his best friend and soulmate who stood behind him in his sickness with her unwavering love, strength and support and she will miss him dearly as part of her soul has left with him to.
He is predeceased by his beautiful, loving little daughter Carol, parents Elsie & Kenneth Benson, brothers Billy, Lester, Max and Allan , Sisters Laura & Hilda.
Left to mourn his Soulmate and loving wife Jean; sons, John (Pauline) and Paul (Connie); grandson's Andrew, Bradley and Brady; grand-daughters Carolyn and Amy, great-granddaughters Hannah, Autumn and Amber; brother's Wallace (Dianne) Kevin (Judy); as well as a large circle of Nieces and Nephews, friends, and special friends, Melvina Thorne, Terry Brown, Bev and Harold Rose and John Abbott.
Pallbearers are : Sons - John Benson, Paul Benson, Grandsons - Andrew Benson & Bradley Benson, Special Friends Terry Brown and Raymond Pitcher, Honorary Pallbearer Grandson Brady Benson.
