Church of the Nazarene minister 1929-1932 Rev. Archibald "Archie" Stanford was born in Placentia Bay, Nfld., the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Stanford. Before he became a minister he was a fisherman in summer and a lumberman in winter. He married Gertrude Myers of Cole Harbour, NS. They had nine children: Rev. Roland, Beulah, Kay, Irving, Frederick, Trudy, Irva, Warner, and Vera. Trudy and Irva were born in Elmsdale, PEI. Rev. Archie Stanford pastored Elmsdale Church of the Nazarene in the deep depression years. His salary was often whatever came in the offering each week. It looks like the early pioneer pastors of yesterday lived a sacrificial life so that the work of the Lord may be established. Thank God for such faithful ministers and their families.
