Dorothy died on 16 July 2008 at the Agnes Pratt Nursing Home in St. John's. Her obituary was printed in The Telegram:
Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family at the Agnes Pratt Nursing Home on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, Dorothy Stringer of Milton, aged 95 years. Predeceased by first husband Newman Martin 1949, second husband Walter Stringer 1996; brother Fred Smith; step-daughter Nellie Vardy and step-son Hayward Martin. Leaving to mourn loving daughter Edna Parsons (Sam); cherished son Lloyd Martin (Vinie); four grandchildren: Scott Crocker (Iris), Sheila Thornhill (Bob), Kerry Martin (Paula) and Gale Martin (Steve); six great-grandchildren; sisters: Susie Avery, Bessie Avery and Edna Spurrell plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville from Thursday, July 17 from 7 - 9 p.m. and Friday, July 18 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral service on Saturday, July 19 at the United Church, Milton - George's Brook at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at the Milton - George's Brook Cemetery. In her memory donations may be made to Milton - George's Brook Cemetery Fund.
