- Samuel died on 5 May 1996 in Little Heart's Ease and was buried in the new Salvation Army cemetery in Little Heart's Ease. His obituary was printed in the paper:
Passed peacefully away May 5th, 1996 at his home, Little Hearts Ease, in the presence and care of his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer, age 56 years. Son of the late Robert and Mabel Jane Smith of Little Hearts Ease. Leaving to cherish his loving memory, his devoted wife of thirty-eight years, Joyce (nee King); special mother-in-law Mariam King (nee Drodge); father-in-law Baxter King, predeceased Feb. 1991; five daughters; Venetta Soper (Perry), Upper Gullies, C. Bay, Maureen Manuel (Bill), Little Hearts Ease, Wanda Drodge (Ken), Little Hearts Ease, Darlene Spurrell (Paul), Butter Cove, Susan Smith, living at home, special friend Cordell Seward, Gooseberry Cove; two sons: Terry (Laurie, nee Churchill), Hodges Cove; Vernon, special friend Laurie Lane of Eastport; daughter-in-law Tracey Smith of Glovertown; 9 very special grandchildren: Mark Drodge, predeceased July 9th, 1992, Stephen Soper, Matthew Drodge, Darlene Smith, Natasha Smith, Stephanie Smith, Kaitland Spurrell, Sara Manuel and Kelsey Smith; four loving brothers and three loving sisters: Roland (Marina), Little Hearts Ease, Mose (Jane), Cambridge, Ontario, Chesley (Donna), Clarenville, Eric (Marjorie), Brampton, Ont., Jessie Stacey (Charlie), Little Hearts Ease, Loretta Martin (George), Little Hearts Ease, Minni Pitcher (Otto), Weybridge; sister-in-law Gloria Dean (Hedley), Barrie, Ontario; brother-in-law Harold King (Elaine), Saint John, NB; co-workers of Dept. of Transportation, where he worked for the past eleven years; many good friends and relatives. Friends are invited together to reminisce and exchange man fond memories at the Salvation Army Citadel, Little Hearts Ease on May 6th, 1996. Funeral Service May 7th at 2:00 at the Salvation Army Citadel, Little Hearts Ease. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
