| 2139 | LARRY K. HANNAH Services will be announced for Larry K. Hannah, 67, of Emporia, who died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002. Mr. Hannah was the director of career services at Emporia State University from 1987 until he retired three months ago. Larry K. Hannah, the son of John and Grace Veteto Hannah, was born Oct. 19, 1935, in Beloit. He married Sandy Dalton at Lawrence. They were divorced. He married Sally Bohac on March 25, 1965, in Miami, Okla. She survives. Mr. Hannah began his career as a secondary speech and English teacher after he graduated from the University of Kansas in 1957. After five years of teaching, including three years on Guam, he joined the faculty at Cottey College in Nevada, Mo. In 1967, he became an assistant professor of speech and director of debate at Eastern Montana College in Billings, Mont. During the 12 years he was a member of the Eastern Montana faculty, Mr. Hannah was treasurer and vice president of the American Forensic Association, a member of the National Debate Tournament Committee and president of campus chapter of the American Association of University Professors. In 1979, he was appointed director for the placement office at Eastern Montana, a job he held for eight years. He also was annual directory editor for the Kansas Association of Career Services and Employment and annual editor for the Association of School, College and University Staffing. Mr. Hannah was a member of the Kansas Association of Colleges and Employers since 1987; he served the group as treasurer and president. He received emeritus member status in November 2002. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Association of Colleges and Employers since 1979 and served in many positions. During the 1980s and 1990s, Mr. Hannah was chairman of the RMACE nominations and publications committee and a member of the board of directors. He also was secretary, treasurer, college representative, secretary-treasurer and chairman of the finance committee. He wrote two articles for the Journal of Career Planning and Employment. He received the RMACE 2002 Distinguished Service Award. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott Hannah of Shawnee and Jefferey Hannah of Rapid City, S.D.; six daughters, Sarah Hannah of Abilene, Texas, Syd Hannah of De Pere, Wis., Steph Hannah of Indianapolis, Ind., Susan Hannah of Denver, Colo., Stacy Hannah-Murthe of Key West, Fla., and Leslie Skinner of Key Largo, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. His death announcement appeared in The Telegram: Passed peacefully away at Health Science Centre, St. John's on Saturday, May 2, 1998 in the presence of his loving family and friends, Leander Stringer of Hodge's Cove, aged 71 years. Predeceased by his wife Mabel, 1996, son-in-law Avalon Whalen, 1991 and sister Ella Stringer, 1992. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are two daughters Sandra Oliver (Ewart), Goose Bay and Sharon Whalen, Hodge's Cove; two granchildren Carl Whalen and Michele Oliver; one brother Garfield Stringer (Hazel), Hodge's Cove; one sister Emma Desjardins (Tony), Montreal, Que.; one sister-in-law Mae Peddle (Clarence), St. John's; one brother-in-law Hubert Peddle (Ethel), Hodge's Cove and also a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
