- DODGE, Cyril - Sailed peacefully into his final sunset at home on December 24, 2019, with his wife and his daughter by his side, Cyril Dodge, in his 82nd year. Cyril was born in 1937 in Little Heart's Ease and moved to St. John's with his family at a young age. He started going to sea as a teenager, first on a schooner to Labrador, and later he completed marine engineering and electrical courses at the old Fisheries College and worked on various ships sailing all over the world. He retired at age 70 from the tugboats at the refinery in Come-By-Chance. Cyril also enjoyed fishing, camping, reading and doing the daily crossword puzzle in the Evening Telegram. He was a devoted husband to his wife and a doting father to his daughter, but the apple of his eye was his grandson, "pappy's little cowboy". He was also an animal lover of his many pets as well as many wild animals including crows, foxes, squirrels, etc. Cyril is predeceased by his parents, infant daughter Sandi Leigh, and brothers Bill Dodge, Lloyd Smith and Reg Smith. Leaving to mourn his wife Evelyn, daughter Dawn, son-in-law Paul Williams, special grandson Spencer and furry companion Paisley; siblings John Martin (Linda), Selina Kelly (Bill), Harold Martin (Barbara), Nita Croft, Todd Martin (Nancy), Faye Dalley (Nev), Eugene Smith (Florence), Danny Smith, Judy Barnes (Bob), and Craig Smith (Tammy); cousin and buddy Ern Dodge (Mary); in-laws Peggy Dodge, Alma Smith, Ann Peddle, Jack Peddle (Irene), Lillian Peddle, Annie Newberry (Randy), Cecil Jacobs, Myrtice Spurrell (Herb), Bruce Peddle (Cathie) and Kevin Peddle (Dot); as well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews, coworkers, friends and coffee buddies from the Village Mall. Many thanks to follow but a special thank you to Dr. Roger Butler of the Home Dementia Care Program, homecare workers Cheryl, Phillip and Michelle and special friends Patricia Heath and Tim Summers. Visitation to take place at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 12noon-9pm. Funeral Service to take place from Barrett's Funeral Chapel on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 11:00am, with a reception to follow at Barrett's Reception Centre.
