Thomas J. Curran, ex-treasury agent
Lynn - Thomas J. Curran, 83, who until last December lived at 32 Cherry St. for 35 years, died Sunday in the Cable Memorial Hospital in Ipswich after a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Lynn, he was stricken Saturday while visiting at the home of a niece Mrs. Catherine F. McKey, 65 Argilla Road, Ipswich.
He was the son of the late Thomas J. and Margaret F. (Scannell) Curran. He was a graduate of English High and later the Bentley School of Accounting in Boston.
He served in the Army during World War I with the Yankee Division and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in action. He attended Suffolk Law School in Boston.
He was a life member of the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph's Church. After graduation he began a government service career spanning several decades until his retirement in the early 1960's. He worked with the Internal Revenue Service, The Civil Service Commission and was a treasury agent when he concluded government service.
He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Valladolid Council, Knights of Columbus, the Loyal Order of Moose, William P. Connery Jr. Post 6, American Legion and the Yankee Division Veterans Association, the National Association of Internal Revenue Employees, the National Treasury Employes Association and the Retired Employes Association of the U.S. Civil Service Commission.
He was husband of the late Helen (Collins) Curran.
He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Blanche M. Duffy of Florida and Mrs. Catherine C. Reynolds of Hollywood, Fla., seven nieces, Sister Michelle Reynolds of the Maryknoll Mission, Hong Kong, China, Mrs. Mary Humphreys of Greenbray, Calif., Joan LeBlanc of Saugus, Mrs. Nada Eischem of Chula Vista, Calif., Mrs. Rita Marler and Mrs. Ann Simard, both of Lynn, Mrs. Catherine F. Mackey of Ipswich, four nephews, John S. Reynolds Jr. of Libertyville, Ill., Atty. Richard L. Reynolds of Saugus, Paul Duffy of Norwood, N.J., Joseph Curran of Danvers, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., with a funeral Mass at 10 in St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
